The new 3rd generation version of the AK57 is identical to its predecessor in features and function. The two major differences are a new fabric – 40% Kevlar instead of 28% previously – and an all-welded welded construction, making it highly water-resistant. (Of course, water can still get in through the top access if the bag is fully submersed).
The only feature alteration is the ice-axe carrying system which has been updated to stay abreast of modern tool development
The AK57 is the big brother to the AK47, the larger capacity of the AK57 makes it a suitable pack for lightweight expeditions on high(er) altitude climbs, or for more traditional, less technical alpine routes (code for us more normal climbers, who don’t like to cut our safety margins like the crazy, extreme guys do).The AK57 is available in three back-lengths.
